Covid caused me to walk early in the mornings, sometimes before dawn. The paintings I made derive from my feelings of isolation and the sensory distortion produced when walking in darkness. Not a normal world.
Mary Low was born in rural Yorkshire and now resides in the Welsh Hills. The British landscape remains the most important subject of her work. Her career trajectory took her away from the arts until she became a full time artist in 2002. Although self-taught Mary’s experimentation and curiosity allowed her to develop her art into abstract paintings, collaborative art projects, prints and land art. Her work has been exhibited in the UK and overseas. These paintings are her first foray into figurative art for 35 years.
