Acrylic on wood
Maria Kuiken, abstract paintings.
Hybrid professional: visual artist & scientist (doctor of philosophy). Began my art career in the studio of Peter Geerts (Art college Zwolle, Netherlands).
I investigate poetic strokes and lines and paint with strong contrasts and clear colours. Usually, I start painting with a concrete form in mind, i.e. a landscape, an object, a notion. With my 'research mind' I then zoom in; deepening my visual interest, analyzing what's going on and what is missing. The concrete then disappears and the not-visible and unknown gathers substance and appears. I enter a silent space and listen. It is a concentrated process of creation and destruction, of thinking and perceiving. Light in space. What you see is what you see.
