A child’s holiday in the 50s. Child in a VW-Beetle, mother drives. He sees a Chevrolet Impala with extravagant tail fins. Is it a bird? And what about the lady on the bicycle along the road: in the rearview mirror and hiding in front of the manor house.
André Schoots paints imaginary tableaus, mostly colorful and sometimes a little curious. Next to tableaus he also paints narrative portraiture.
The tendency of André to embed thematic or narrative content is open-ended. He tries to compel the beholder to wonder. His ultimate hope is to inspire those who see the work to stick around a while and contemplate.
