André Schoots

Road Rules Unpeeled

Material: Oil on canvas
Size: 60 x 80 cm

A drowning church, symbolic for an increasing secularisation in western society and a traffic sign that is flaking off. The old commandment is gradually being replaced by a call to embrace. The person in the VW-Beetle leaves bitterness behind and drives towards an inviting woman in the distance.
André Schoots paints imaginary tableaus, mostly colorful and sometimes a little curious. Next to tableaus he also paints narrative portraiture. The tendency of André to embed thematic or narrative content is open-ended. He tries to compel the beholder to wonder. His ultimate hope is to inspire those who see the work to stick around a while and contemplate.
