Since long, many looked at the USA as an example for freedom and progress. Currently old sparks becomes fire.
Will the proud eagle be rescued in time?
Born in Amsterdam in 1948, to be precise on the Lindegracht in the heart of the Jordaan. Due to an 'administrative' mistake of nature, I had to be tinkered with by doctors. Which meant that I could walk a little later than usual. A less fortunate start can be tricky, but it also has advantages. Parents and family give you all sorts of things to make your life more enjoyable. Including [pictures] books, coloring books and pencils for example and paint. I think that's where my love to draw and paint started. And that has never stopped. At times it is love, sometimes fear or anger, but it has to be made. Everything must be able to be captured in images. For me the way to express myself.
I used to work as a layout man and later as a graphic designer. But that is a thing of the past. And when I couldn't find my feet there, I started doing completely different things and left Amsterdam. In my current village, I - along with my wife - started working with dogs and people. Some of my paintings clearly relate to that period. I still did painting when there was an opportunity. But the desire to paint remains and has only grown stronger.
I like to work with oil paint on canvas or panel. The subjects often have the theme of nature. Light, air, space and trees and tranquility. Somewhere where I would like to be or have been. Sometimes I have to give it a more political or social charge. Paint something off me, to be able to 'deal' with it. And sometimes only use palette knives.
I consider myself self-taught.
